I Wonder

I wonder, how I wonder
as my mind carries me across little towns to large cities,
then from state to state,
as I pass over houses and land,
I wonder just how many hearts of youth
are experiencing real no strings attached love.
Has the word love become as fake as beautiful silk plants
or as a guaranteed real gold chain
that when friction is applied, fades to reveal its true colors.
L – learning to like someone
regardless of being just a wee bit different.
O – observing to do what is right,
especially to the one and only you.
V – visiting someone who needs to hear
that victory is just a breath away.
E – empty yourself for the sake of someone who is hungry,
and experience a fill-up that only love can provide.
What is a heart without love,
what is love without a heart to house it,
what is a house without love.
To find the answer to the question is easy.
Just look near the dark street corners
and around the back of a hidden place
where homeless teens sleep.
Like diamonds in the rough,
you find beautiful hearts
blackened by the starvation of real pure love.
As iron sharpens iron, so love brightens love,
polishes hearts of the young and old.
And the best thing about it all
is that to love is free,
free to be what we are meant to be.
