Summer Wind

  1. Wind oh wind from the four corners of the earth

Stretched far and wide are the borders of your birth

From where you come or where you go I don’t know

The sun, moon and stars are all participants of your show

The same wind on which the mightiest of birds fly

Is the same gentle breeze that comforts me on warm summer nights

Two teen boys diligently at work on a sandy beach

With dreams of sailing their freedom during the next few weeks

Without a thought or the need for a good summers breeze

Wind oh wind oh where can you be

Without your presence, these sails won’t fly free

Comfort, pleasure and all its fine friends all patiently wait

For the winds to blow just like the start of a race

From the small pieces of trash that twirl on the wind

To the falling of trees as if without a friend

    Though invisible you may be

The sun, moon and sea have no victory over thee?

Without the wind just how miserable life would be

So what is the difference between you and me?

Skin and bones blood and flesh is useless unless it breathes its first breath

Wind oh wind tell me what do you see?

Answering the request as wind whistles through the tree

As it roars like a lion across the top of the sea

Trying to see me in a breeze? that will never be

Foolishly trying to gain control of me, that you will never see

I have neither color nor a soul to hate

The depth of my skin you can’t infiltrate

To fight me in a storm head-on, your fate is found

Because of me many reside underground

Love, acceptance or hate, that is important to me

Many have forgotten battles, war cries and the sound of victory

I witnessed them all from the four corners of the earth

And will be here when man causes his own last breath

I remain as I have always been through eternity - just look around and you’ll see

The sun, moon and sea are all different but work together as three

For without them I would never be.
