Unwasted Youth
Copyright © 2007
- It’s easy to give in to old age,
- To imagine love is nothing more,
- Than our hormones in a rage,
- Sitting quietly waiting for food
- While youth lays wasted on the grass
- Thinking of a change in mood
- Wishing replenishment, to be fast.
-
- How easy it would be to kiss
- Them on their skulking lips,
- Ravishing their mouths and tongues
- With words of love and bliss
- Concealed in age-ed hymns and keens
- Soaring from our still bounded souls
- Instead of from our unzipped genes.
-
- It’s easy to watch them now,
- For their need of us is unknown,
- It’s easy for them to ignore,
- The delights we all have grown
- In the daylight of our lives,
- For youth is like the shining sun,
- It falls and fails on everyone.
