The One Who Was Not Taken by Ellie Kan

The One Who Was Not Taken

You sit there, aghast

Shocked at the scene

That lies before your eyes

At the moment that seemed:

Timeless

The wreckage of metal,

Skin, blood, and tears

Of life and death,

Pain and suffering,

Once alive with hope

Slowly, haltingly

Memories come flooding back

The realization, of the moment

The hurt, regret, and longing

To join the ones who have fallen

But also a voice comes up to your mind

It says, "It was not your fault.”

It was not your fault,

That they have fallen,

It’s not your fault

That you have survived
