The story revolves around a nineteen year old intelligent young scientist, Kiwakaazi, in ancient Africa. He was accused and found guilty of an incident that claimed many lives in the then Nibooman (Land of Inventions or Western Empire) of Africa. As punishment, he was banished to find a special plant that bears a special flower in Nomposuro (dark and evil forest). There was only one slight problem. The kranjus (immortal guardians) stand in his way. How is thin, weak and naive Kiwakaazi going to survive in Nomposuro? The epic and yet very spiritual journey of Kiwakaazi and other related stories has been captured in this story. Hope you enjoy it!
The earth shook; Kiwakaazi and Deila did not grasp what was going on. What could be the cause of this earthquake? They noticed the large pyramid was being sucked into the earth. It was a slow process and was probably the cause of the earthquake. After the pyramid was completely swallowed by the earth, the shape of an equilateral triangle was left on the earth where it stood. They heard a bird crow. Kiwakaazi and Deila looked up into the dark sky of the dark forest. They saw a large bird; a white eagle descending from above.
The bird landed in the triangle and a dwarf dismounted it. He patted this huge eagle and told it to leave; he would call it when this battle is over. He was perhaps the most beautiful amongst all the dwarfs. He looked exactly like his brothers except he had beautiful white hair; long, beautiful and flowing white beard. He had a very peaceful atmosphere about him. He raised his right hand and gestured for Kiwakaazi and Deila to come close.
Of course they were not stupid to enter another suspicious plane figure. Have you forgotten what happened to them in the last one? The dwarf took in a deep breath and sighed. Kiwakaazi and Deila looked around them. “How did this happen?” they both questioned.
Kiwakaazi and Deila were standing in the triangle. They never felt their bodies move nor did they feel the triangle move. So how did they find themselves inside this triangle?
The fifth and final dwarf introduced himself as Kuntunkunukun and called the triangle they stood in “The triangle of light.” He, however, preferred to be called Papa dwarf or simply the white dwarf. He had been sitting on top of the pyramid of enlightenment. He had been meditating. Papa dwarf spoke and explained that the purpose of life is to reach enlightenment. He asked, “Why are you here Kiwakaazi? Is it because of your name? Is it because of her? Or perhaps you are paying for some sins? You see, these are questions that can only be answered when you attain enlightenment,” added Papa dwarf.
Deila whispered into Kiwakaazi’s ears, “It is trick. I can feel great energy pouring from his body and filling the triangle. He is up to something.” Kiwakaazi listened and asked, “Tell me more about your triangle.” White dwarf was impressed. He answered, “The triangle has three sides. There is always a base and an apex. The base represents the two sides of life; mind and soul. These two must rise and merge into one at the apex. When there is no conflict between mind and soul, only then shall a being attain enlightenment. Do you understand this Kiwakaazi?”
Kiwakaazi answered. “Yes, Papa dwarf. Thank you for the lesson.” But Papa dwarf said, “Don’t thank me yet, Kiwakaazi. The lesson is not yet over.”
Five hundred years ago, Nomposuro was not dark and evil. It was the home of the great people of the central empire ruled by Kaazi (Emperor) Kiwakaazi (the second). He was also a very spiritual man although he did not prefer to be called a gyaati (messenger). There was another man whom actually called himself a gyaati. This man claimed to have been sent by Anambre to save mankind. He was called Garula but changed his name to Anambre and responded only to that. He knew everything about Anambre and his teachings. He studied the lives of all Anambre’s successors and was perhaps the first person to consult if two or more disagree on the teachings of Anambre. People convinced him to start teaching what he knew and he knew a lot.
He taught the same thing as any gyaati before. He mentioned Akaani (Nameless One). He talked about Alaami (The Eternal Home of Peace). He knew that the reality of man is not flesh and bones but a unique and all powerful indweller of the flesh and bones called Shosuma (Soul or Life). His following grew until one day one of his followers asked him if he had ever been to Alaami; seen Akaani or seen anything that resembles a Shosuma (Life or Soul) inside of himself. He had not. These were just things he had read from books and spoke about them with such finesse and poise that it sounded true. He realized he had been teaching something he doubted himself. He therefore went to see the man who had all the answers; Kaazi Kiwakaazi (the second).
In Nomposuro, three men appeared on the vertices of the three triangles. Papa dwarf was standing at the center of the triangle such that he faced the apex. “Allow me to introduce my three warriors,” said Papa dwarf. He pointed first to his right and said, “That man is Kinwa-si-kaazi. His name was changed to Kiwakaazi.” Papa dwarf pointed to his left. “That is Kiwakaazi (the second). He was a great warrior and his power created this forest,” introduced the dwarf. “And the third and final man; the man occupying the apex was none other than the immortal himself — Zakaru Sidiata (Zakaru the immortal); the first man to ever wield the kafunde (demon mummifier). All these three men were buried on this land. All these three men ever handled the kafunde,” introduced Papa dwarf. And they were all wielding one.
Kiwakaazi dug his left hand into his right palm and pulled out the kafunde. Slowly the black thread wrapped around his hand and he changed into a rahasi (guardian of hell) and Deila also changed into Kaki — her beast form called shinko. Kuntunkunukun (fifth dwarf) said, “Now that we have all been introduced, let the battle of the century begin!” All three men changed to rahasi and disappeared.
Garula (who called himself Anambre) wanted Kaazi Kiwakaazi to show him the way — the path to enlightenment. Kaazi Kiwakaazi II agreed and said, “Anambre was not even a gyaati,” and that was it. Garula (known as Anambre) frowned and shouted, “What?!” He went on to explain the term “gyaati.” He explained why Anambre is the only gyaati. He talked and talked while Kaazi Kiwakaazi II listened. When his speech was over, Kaazi Kiwakaazi (the second) said, “I cannot help you because your head is bigger than mine.” Literally, his head was way bigger than Kaazi Kiwakaazi II’s. Garula did not understand the Kaazi’s metaphor. He became upset. He said, “I don’t need your help anyway. I can do this myself. I am the messenger of Anambre.” He stormed out and started meditating. After ten years, he had still no proof of what he taught until that day when the dwarf believed to be so involved in understanding the mysteries of the universe, the fifth dwarf, offered to help Garula prove once and for all the existence of Akaani (Nameless One), Alaami (Eternal Home of Peace) and Shosuma (Soul or Life). On that day, Garula became the fifth and most powerful dwarf and even as a dwarf he was always meditating still trying to unravel the mysteries of the universe.
In Nomposuro, when they appeared, Kiwakaazi and Deila had both assumed various positions to stop the weapons of their attackers. Kiwakaazi held his kafunde over his right shoulder. Pushing it downwards were two other kafundes. Kaki was holding on firmly to a kafunde that was pointed at her abdomen. She roared and the legendary three disappeared.
Kiwakaazi also disappeared. By the time Zakaru appeared Kiwakaazi was already behind him swinging his kafunde from left to right to behead the immortal. Zakaru turned quickly and swung his kafunde. The two weapons clashed. But for some unexplained reason, Kiwakaazi was pushed backwards.
Kiwakaazi (the first) disappeared and appeared behind Kiwakaazi (the third) who was struggling to stop himself. Kiwakaazi III plunged his kafunde into the soil to stop moving. Kiwakaazi (the first) swung his sword. Appearing like the flash behind Kiwakaazi was Kaki. Using her left hand, she helped stop his movement and caught the attacking kafunde with her right hand. Kiwakaazi (the third) had barely been stopped by his shinko ally when he also disappeared and appeared behind Kiwakaazi (the first) and swung to cut through his predecessor vertically; from head to toe.
Kiwakaazi (the second) also made it in time to stop Kiwakaazi III’s kafunde with his. Kiwakaazi (the third) immediately disappeared, grabbed hold of Kaki and disappeared with her before Zakaru’s kafunde made contact and injured or even worse killed her from her left. Kaki’s face changed to human and she asked Kiwakaazi if he was alright. He said, “I’m fine. But I just don’t understand something. All three of them have the same kafunde and yet when our kafunde’s clash, theirs feel heavier; ten times heavier.” Kaki replied saying, “Maybe it is a result of the drop in your energy. I cannot use the full powers of Kaki yet but I can see energy patterns and yours is very low, Kay. You need to slow down.” Kiwakaazi (the third) stepped forward and argued, “Thank you for your concern but we did not come this far to slow down. I guess I just have to increase my energy level quickly. Come on!” What a show-off!
He disappeared and attacked Zakaru again. He probably wanted to eliminate the only man not bearing the great name or maybe he just didn’t like the name Zakaru. I don’t know but I love the name Zakaru so much I think I will probably name one of my sons Zakaru. Zakaru defended Kiwakaazi III’s attack from above with his kafunde. This time Kiwakaazi felt the weight had reduced but only slightly. Zakaru attacked with the pointed edge and Kiwakaazi (the third) deflected it to his right side using his kafunde. They weight gap kept on reducing. The dwarf smiled. Kaki shouted, “Kay! Behind you!” Kiwakaazi III disappeared.
He appeared behind Kaki and shielded her from an attack from Kiwakaazi (the second). The shinko jumped, somersaulted in the air and attacked Kiwakaazi (the second) with her powerful right claw while Kiwakaazi turned sharply to clash kafunde with Kiwakaazi (the first). Her attack only ended up destroying the ground where her opponent stood. Immediately after their blades clashed, Kiwakaazi (the first) disappeared. The legendary three regrouped. Kiwakaazi and Kaki stood side by side watching their strongest opponents yet.
The dwarf sat down and crossed his legs when the battle he named the battle of the century commenced. He looked really calm and followed the battle with his eyes closely. But when the two sides regrouped, he got up and clapped with his tinny baby-like palms. He exclaimed, “I knew it! I knew it! This battle is living up to its bidding. Oh, how I wish the whole world could witness this battle. Such splendid team work from both sides! Who is going to win and who is going to lose? Let us find out in the second round. Round two… begin!”
Kiwakaazi (the third) disappeared leaving Kaki’s side. The two men also named Kiwakaazi disappeared. Zakaru remained put. He released his kafunde which moved quickly towards Kaki like an arrow. It was so quick that, it might be impossible for Kaki to stop it. Kiwakaazi’s (the third) kafunde had been grabbed by Kiwakaazi (the second) and the Kiwakaazi (the first) was already near and ready to drive his kafunde through Kiwakaazi (the third).
The dwarf closed his eyes and thought, ‘How did these two weaklings defeat my brothers? Anyway, it will be over soon.’
