The story revolves around a nineteen year old intelligent young scientist, Kiwakaazi, in ancient Africa. As punishment, he was banished to find a special plant that bears a special flower in Nomposuro (dark and evil forest). There was only one slight problem. The kranjus (immortal guardians) stand in his way. How is thin, weak and naive Kiwakaazi going to survive in Nomposuro? The epic and yet very spiritual journey of Kiwakaazi and other related stories has been captured in this story. Hope you enjoy it!

Chapter 16:   The Knight in Shining Armor     Story Index >>

Kiwakaazi (the third) had no idea that the weapon could be shot like an arrow. It was so quick he was certain Deila would not be able to avoid it in time. How did he do it? Maybe it was love. May be his power level increased. Maybe… okay I don’t know anymore. A golden sword pushed and deflected Zakaru’s kafunde to the left of the shinko. It literally forced out the kafunde that was moving under Deila’s body probably towards her liver.  She suffered her first injury. The other two Kiwakaazi’s also disappeared after they were attacked by golden swords. Kiwakaazi was already next to Kaki. He asked, “Are you alright?” She answered, “This cannot even be called a scratch. I am ready to continue.”

The legendary three regrouped again. Kaki looked at Kiwakaazi (the third) and said, “It seems you were able to awaken the mark of Uruhusa. And at the right time too.” Kiwakaazi was focused as usual. Two red marks a couple of centimeters long had grown from underneath his eyes. He said, “Sorry that I was almost late.” Deila said, “Better late than never. Tell me how we are going to defeat these three.”

The dwarf once again spoke saying, “He awakens the Uhurusa to save his ally — The mark of a true hero; a knight in shining armor. Now the battle is poised to be even more legendary! Round three… begin!”

Round one of the battle of the century begun with an interesting matchup — three men tagged as legends against the love birds, Kiwakaazi III and Kaki. Round three begun differently, Kaki was injured and Kiwakaazi (the third) had awakened the much awaited for mark of Uruhusa — not the complete mark but just enough to save Kaki. And for the first time, Kiwakaazi III and Kaki attacked first. Kiwakaazi as usual attacked Zakaru. Three of his golden swords attacked Kiwakaazi (the first) and two attacked Kiwakaazi (the second). They immediately disappeared.

Kiwakaazi (the first) appeared with Kaki’s right claw stuck in his back. He swung his kafunde scaring off the beast. He fell on his knees and Kiwakaazi’s other golden swords were bearing down on him. Kiwakaazi (the second) appeared beside his predecessor and fought off all the golden swords. Kaki also tried to attack but she too was not given a chance to finish off the first man to be called Kiwakaazi. Zakaru disappeared and the others joined him. Kiwakaazi I’s back that was torn sealed and after a short break, he looked completely healed. “It seems your “goat skin” is tougher than it looks,” teased Kaki. Kiwakaazi remarked, “You have no idea.”

The dwarf said, “That was close. It is now a tie. Zakaru injured her and now she has injured Kinwa. But this battle is far from over.” He took in a deep breath and while exhaling, he yelled, “Round four… begin!”

Deila and Kiwakaaazi did not attack this time. They pressed their backs against each other. Only the other two Kiwakaazis moved. It was very clear who was the leader among the legendary three. It was certainly Zakaru. That must probably be the reason why Kiwakaazi (the third) was bent on killing him first. Kiwakaazi (the first) attacked Kaki and the two kafundes of the second and third Kiwakaazis had clashed. Suddenly, someone’s blood was splattered everywhere. Whose blood was splattered? Who is dying?

Kaki was first a shinko. Then, she mastered the real powers of the death goddess, Kaki. Her meeting Kiwakaazi had changed her both inside and outside. She now had the ability to change any part of her body from beast to human. She had absolute control over her beastly side. Before round four commenced, she showed Kiwakaazi her back. It had no hair and looked like the skin of a human being. He knew instantly what she was thinking. She knew how his powers worked and had come up with the perfect plan.

When Kiwakaazi (the third) released the mark of Uhurusa, he first awakened five golden blades. These golden blades were wired to provide defense. They were therefore always around Kiwakaazi. When he decides to use them for attack, they start their journey towards their target from around his body. They travel very quickly. But these three also possessed the kafunde and were quicker than Kiwakaazi (the third). A fraction of a second wasted, is a wasted chance to defeat them.

Kiwakaazi (the first) attacked Kaki and she caught hold of his kafunde. Remember the kafunde is firmly attached to the palm of the user. Only Zakaru could release it. He was special in that way. The rest did not have that ability. Besides after Kaki caught his kafunde, he swung his right fist also at the beast. She caught that too. There was no way he could escape now.

Kiwakaazi released two of his golden blades to attack the Kaazi caught by Kaki and another two to attack Kiwakaazi (the second). Kiwakaazi the second disappeared and attacked from above. Kaki did not even flinch. She was ready to die with the first man to bear the great name. But that would not be necessary because her boyfriend was around. He moved the remaining three golden blades to both defend and attack the second bearer of the special name.

Zakaru did not stand idle. He too had awakened the mark of Uhurusa and sent all his five golden blades flying towards Kiwakaazi (the third) and Kaki.  Once again, Kiwakaazi the third fought them all off. All the efforts of the legendary three to save their friend failed. The golden blades stabbed the man who helped defeat Dofa and made history. They perforated his body from the front and exited his body from the back. Kaki released him to die alone. He collapsed to his knees and before his entire body fell on the ground, it disappeared.

Only two zombies remained. Those two immediately regrouped. Kiwakaazi and Kaki turned to face them. They were both panting. This battle is draining them slowly.

The dwarf said in a very sad voice, “Finally, one of the legends is down. I cannot believe it. I did not anticipate this. We have lost a great warrior. But this is not the end. Let’s proceed to winning this war.”

The white dwarf; the gentle dwarf looked unhappy. He probably did not count on losing one of his zombies to this war. He was disappointed and his rather cheerful call of rounds had stopped. So please permit me to do it for him: “Round five… begin!”

Kiwakaazi (the third) disappeared first and attacked Kiwakaazi (the second). Kiwakaazi (the second) countered his attack. Following closely that attack was another attack using his golden swords. They circled and attacked his name sake. But they failed to strike his opponent down since Zakaru had already commanded his golden blades to defend his only surviving partner. Kaki seeing that the immortal no longer had his defense run quickly and attacked him. He also countered her attack with his kafunde. Next one golden sword was attacking from behind her. Kiwakaazi (the third) had noticed it and also stopped the immortal’s attack using his golden sword. Kaki escaped and the opponents regrouped once again.

Kiwakaazi advised Kaki not to attack Zakaru until he had come up with a plan; a plan that will help her defeat him. She did not understand. So he explained to her why only she can defeat Zakaru. According to Kiwakaazi, from the very first time their eyes met, that is, Kiwakaazi (the third) and Zakaru, he felt like he knew the immortal. That was simply impossible. But something strange happens to him every time their swords clash. He sees pieces and bits of a life that did not belong to him. He sees the face of that same man and the life he had. But that was not at all the scary part.

The scary part was that he felt that he and Zakaru were evenly matched. They could fight for all eternity and there will be no winner. He could not explain it but he understood after a while that he cannot kill Zakaru. Only Kaki can. But the damn immortal is so darn strong. He will have to come up with a solid plan that will not involve Kaki risking her life like he did when they fought against the second dwarf. Deila now understood Kiwakaazi III. She stepped forward and said, “Leave him to me. You focus on killing the other Kaazi. I promise you that I will kill him and not suffer even a single scratch on my body.”
