Do I Dare?

  1. Sitting stareing at the screen
  2. should I push the button?
  3. What will I be today?
  4. What will be the name
  5. given by those who don't know me?
  6. Who will pass judgement on my life
  7. without living it?
  8. Who will disparage my deeds
  9. without knowing them?
  10. Who will condemn me
  11. for a label they have given?
  12.  
  13. Who will hate me
  14. with the hatred they preach against?
  15. Blind hatred
  16. Practised hatred
  17. Perfected hatred
  18. Who will demean me for differences
  19. while defending their own?
  20. Who will dismiss my ideas as evil
  21. because they disagree?
  22. Who will judge and ridicule me
  23. while demanding they not be judged?
  24.  
  25. Questions can have many answers
  26. and problems many solutions.
  27. Who will not help solve those problems
  28. unless the solution is one that they choose?
  29. Who will use words to injure and hurt
  30. thinking they're proving a point,
  31. forgetting that after the anger is gone
  32. the words will still remain?
  33. Who will berate those taking different paths
  34. and call them hurtfull names,
  35. while ignoring shared goals and dreams?
  36.  
  37. And so here I sit, before this screen,
  38. looking at the button.
  39. Will it be more of the same today
  40. or will today be different?
  41. Will I be seen for who I am
  42. or as what they wrongfully percieve?
  43. Will I be judged based on what I do
  44. or for not going along with with their beliefs?
  45. Will my presence and ideas be welcome
  46. or merely tolerated?
  47. Should I push the button? I wonder if I dare.
