The End of Twilight

a poem by Codey

  1. Morning arrives with a cry
  2. as dawn breaks bright and clear,
  3. birthing a day of promise,
  4. an innocent not yet knowing fear.
  5. A day unfettered by certainties,
  6. born with a totally clean slate.
  7. Bearing no innate prejudice
  8. and a heart still free from hate.
  9.
  10. But during the day things happen,
  11. things with which we must cope,
  12. or join with crowds of others
  13. descending a slippery slope.
  14. A slope that's iced with anger
  15. and oiled by lies and deceit,
  16. leading to a day of frustration,
  17. a day, somehow, incomplete.
  18.
  19. Confused by cacophonous noise
  20. from a myriad of voices,
  21. the day is slowly formed
  22. from unnumbered choices.
  23. Some choices good, some choices bad,
  24. a lottery in a cosmic game.
  25. But whoever makes the choice
  26. must be willing to accept the blame.
  27.
  28. Twilight whispers a warning
  29. that soon the day will end,
  30. leaving us with questions
  31. but no answers we comprehend.
  32. And tho, at the end of twilight,
  33. all might be revealed,
  34. by the end of twilight,
  35. our fate is already sealed.
