To Be Me
a poem by Codey
- In searching for an easy life,
- some kowtow and try to fit in,
- as if begging for forgiveness
- for the commission of a sin.
- This sin is named by bigots
- and by too many of us believed.
- They've bought the lies of the many,
- not realizing they've been deceived.
-
- The lives they lead may seem okay
- but it's all a big charade.
- I'd rather live my own life
- than join in their masquerade.
- To improve our station on the wheel of life,
- I'll gladly become a pinion.
- But I'll be damned and fight like hell
- before I become anyone's minion
