Winter’s Child

A poem by Codey

  1. Who are you winter's child?
  2. What do you feel and see?
  3. Why are you what you are winter‘s child?
  4. How did you come to be?
  5. Will you ever find your place winter‘s child?
  6. Where do you belong?
  7. When will you find peace winter‘s child?
  8. Or is rejection to be lifelong?
  9.
  10. Trapped between two worlds, winter’s child,
  11. a child’s body and emotions, mind and thoughts of man.
  12. Accepted in neither world, winter’s child,
  13. despised by coevals, distrusted by sons of pan.
  14. The fates played their little joke, winter’s child,
  15. and tossed you among the sheep.
  16. You’re reaping a bitter harvest, winter’s child,
  17. from fields you did not seed.
  18.
  19. Your will and psyche are melting, winter’s child,
  20. leaking away, leaving a cold hollow shell.
  21. You’re bluffing your way through life, winter’s child,
  22. finding it hard to ignore the sirens’ knell.
  23. You’re on a Quixotic quest, winter’s child,
  24. seeking the acceptance that you crave.
  25. The only acceptance you‘ll find, winter’s child,
  26. is the acceptance you’ll find in your grave.
